Our chosen production company type
The production
company type we have chosen is mainstream, compared to that of an independent
film company. An Independent film – also known as indie film – is a film that
has mainly been produced, marketed and exhibited without the aid of a major
film company (for example Universal Pictures). In addition to this, no major
actors are generally included in the cast. The film is also usually produced
under a low budget – meaning that there will be little or no special effects
and other special features included in the film. An example of an independent
film is Shane Meadow’s This Is England. Mainstream film is the opposite of
independent film, in the sense that usually the whole process of making the
film will be funded by a large film company such as Paramount Pictures. Also,
the budget of the film will be very large, depending on its potential to be a
successful film – viewed by how large its opening intake will be – as the film
companies have the sufficient money to fund this. With the mainstream status, we can employ a-list actors to be a part of our feature film, therefore boosting the popularity and status of our film, as well as our company.
