Genre Research

We have researched into the initial ideas of the crime film genre. This is so that we could gain an idea as to how our film will work, how it will be set out and the initial contents of our film.

Firstly, throughout the crime film genre, there is a consistent showcase of wealth. Predominantly, it is the criminal who has significant amounts of money, or possessions.
For example, in the crime series Breaking Bad, the main character (and criminal), Walter White, primarily enters the field of crime due to his poor financial status. He is soon extremely wealthy. In once scene, he and his wife are shown in a storage container with an enormous pile of cash. They are seen confused, as if they do not know what to do with such funds.

This is also shown in films such as Wolf of Wall Street, Lord of War and 2 Fast 2 Furious. In 2 Fast 2 Furious, the criminal and antagonist , Carter Verone, is shown with extreme wealth - the main source to the plot of the film. In one scene, drivers are sent to his mansion estate to partake in a competition. He is shown with bodyguards, as well as wearing a nice suit in front of his large house.

These characteristics of wealth are shown in a negative light, as it highlights the fact that the money obtained by these characters is through crime.

How we will relate this to our opening
Our film opening will show the main character wearing an expensive suit, driving a luxury car as well as leaving his mansion. He will then be shown arriving at a building site, which is a company that is owned by him. We will try to highlight the fact he is involved in crime, and incorporate this with his wealth.
